Creatively Yours Sketch 5:13

Just dropping by to let you know that the Creatively Yours Sketch 5:13 and interpretations are up on the Creatively Yours Sketches Blog. Our inspiration was to use something relating to music and I must say the S:CY Design Team knocked it out of the park. I am in awe of each page submitted for this sketch. Head over to the blog and give the latest sketch, 5:13 a try. We'd love to see what you create. Carley turned 11 on March 29th and had been dropping, not so subtle, hints that she wanted a pink guitar for her birthday. She came in to the bedroom the night of her birthday and found daddy playing her pink guitar. This, of course, lead into daddy showing her and Gavin chords and the first of many jam sessions between the three of them. I am thinking I need a guitar!! Here is my interpretation..."You Are the Music to My Heart."

Sketch 23-12 is up at Creatively Yours Sketches
For this week, I decided to break into my Halloween kit from Noel Mignon and get last years Halloween pictures scrapped. Can you tell I'm ready for Fall? Well, I am and it can't get here quick enough for me!! This is Carley, Gavin, and Matthew getting ready for Trick or Treating on Lovers Lane. We have always trick or treated on Lovers Lane since my sister lived there for years, but this was our first year actually living there during Halloween. The street becomes almost magical, with little kids in costume running everywhere with their little buckets knocking on doors. We had three huge buckets of candy and still ran out before everyone was finished for the night. We really broke Jason in good since he's used to avoiding the trick or treating crowds on Halloween. We all had a great time though, including Jason!!
Head on over to Creatively Yours and share with us your take on the sketch!! Until next time...

While preparing for the Scrap It class, I have been thinking a lot lately about Scrapbooking and why I love it so much. There is nothing better than browsing through your pictures, picking out paper and embellishments, coming up with a title and theme, and getting that memory down on paper. I do it to capture the memories..to tuck them away in a book that can be taken off the shelf and browsed at any time of the day or night. I can't tell you how good it does my heart to thumb through those memories and remember some of the greatest moments of my life. I can look at the lay-outs of Carley and Gavin's births and still feel the nervousness and excitement I felt going into the hospital to bring them into the world. Just this past Tuesday, my dad's birthday, I pulled his book off the shelf and looked through it. It brings him closer somehow and eases the pain of missing him just a little bit. What really makes my heart swell is when Carley and Gavin bring their books to me and ask me to tell their them their story!! We have spent hours looking through the pages while I told them funny stories of their baby and toddler years and recalled proud moments of their school days and other accomplishments. It's about having such easy access to those moments, not only for me but for my loved ones. So many memories fill those pages; the day Jason and I got married, my dance company days, birthdays, Christmases, vacations, outings with friends, special moments for my niece and nephews. Now I get to look forward to those pages of my niece Savannah and my new great niece or nephew to be. There is absolutely nothing like it. Now God has opened the door for me to teach in my community. First in Winfield, next in Hackleburg, and I'm currently looking for a spot in Hamilton. I am humbled by the opportunity to introduce others to the world of scrapbooking! I am thankful to those that are taking this journey with me. I am also very thankful to those who have believed in my work and gave me the opportunity to design for them...Scrapbooker's Clubhouse, Paper Popsicles, Paper Piecing Artist Guild, Creatively Yours Sketches, and For the Luv of Art. There are days I compare myself to other great scrapbookers on the net and fail miserably. I may never be a part of the "in" crowd of scrapbookers and while I have spent countless hours trying, I'm okay with that. That's not what is important. What is important to me is getting my family memories recorded and sharing this great hobby with others. I don't want to ever lose sight of that. So anyway, that is part of what has been on my heart lately. I'm looking forward to the Scrap It class next Saturday. If you haven't signed up yet, please do. It'll be good to gather with friends for a morning a scrapbooking fun. We all need girl time, right?? I hope this builds into a monthly gig where we can get together and create til our heart's content. I hope to see you there!! Last week was my week to share on the For the Luv of Art blog. Just in case you missed my posts last week, I wanted to share my projects with you here. For the Luv of Art is a community that is growing. I would love it if you would join me there. It's a great group of ladies and no shortage of inspiration. So head on over and register, they, along with myself, are waiting to welcome you!! Here are my FTLOA DT projects...First up is Jason and I at Carley's dance recital this passed May.

We are back from our vacation to Savannah, Georgia and Tybee Island. Jason and I have always wanted to go, so to say we were super excited about this trip is an understatement. We arrived after 3 pm and got checked in to our hotel. Then, we headed down to the Riverwalk to look around and enjoyed some awesome Greek food at the Olympia Cafe. We were all pretty tired so, after a quick trip to Wal-Mart, we headed back to the hotel to let the kids swim. We got up and had breakfast Tuesday morning and headed to Tybee Island, which looked like a little piece of paradise on Earth. Our first stop was to see the lighthouse.
After a quick lunch at Arby's, we headed for the beach. It was absolutely beautiful. I was so glad the entrance allowed Jason to go up to the sand, so we could all sit together.
Here we are on the beach...
I couldn't resist a pic of Carley and Gavin on the driftwood. This is Gavin's "I'm hot and ready to get under the air conditioning" face.
They enjoyed running from the waves. You could hear their squeals all the way up the beach. They were having so much fun! I love this photo of Carley!! When she feels, she feels all over and you can tell how happy she is in this picture!
Austin and Jason decided to compare their muscles!! I think Jason has him beat. Don't you?
Here's GMAN walking from the water to go sit on his towel.
After our beach trip, we headed back to the hotel. Cindy kept the kids for us, so Jason and I went to eat at Uncle Bubba's. To say it was great food would be an understatement. The back area of the restaurant was by the water. It was so pretty back there. I could've sat there the rest of the night. We decided to head to downtown Savannah on Wednesday. Carley was so excited to see the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace and the Girl Scout Headquarters, where Mrs. Low lived the remainder of her life. Unfortunately, it was a holiday and both houses were closed. Carley was pretty upset but I told her that would give us an excuse to come back sometime. This is Carley and Gavin in front of the Birthplace
and in front of the Andrew Low house where the Girl Scout Headquarters are located.
We then headed to Forsyth Park to see the fountain. It was absolutely beautiful, with the moss trees hanging over the walk leading to the biggest fountain I had ever seen in my life. Here we are in front of the fountain:
After the park, we headed down to the Riverwalk. We walked up and down the street and took in all the shops and restaurants. We had lunch at Mr. Huey's. There was a gentleman playing sax under the over pass. I could've swore it was the radio playing over the loud speaker, but there he was in the flesh playing the most beautiful sax music. He stopped to play the Umpa Lumpa song from Willy Wonka, when Gavin walked by. Gavin just smiled!! It's a huge accomplishment to get Gavin to smile when he's hot and tired!! This is the bridge, going into South Carolina. Jason found the end of it so we could cross it, cause that's just what we do!:) Jason is known for taking roads (or bridges) just to see where they go. The view of Savannah from the bridge was well worth it.
These are riverboats docked right next to the Riverwalk. On our next trip, we are going to take one of the cruises. Can you tell I already have our next trip planned out?
There is so much more I could share but you'd be here the rest of the night, so I won't keep you. If you made it this far, thanks for sticking with me to hear about our vacation. I know, without a doubt, that we will return to Savannah again. It is one of my favorite vacation spots by far. Thanks for stopping by!! I'll see you tomorrow with a post on what I've been creating this week!! Until then...
